China’s solar cell conversion efficiency sets new world record

The reporter learned on July 7 that the conversion efficiency of the crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell developed by Longi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Longi Green Energy”) reached 34.6%, breaking the world record again.

As one of the next-generation ultra-high-efficiency solar cell technology routes, the theoretical limit efficiency of crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells is as high as 43%. In November 2023, the Longi Green Energy research team increased the efficiency of crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells to 33.9%.

In order to achieve further breakthroughs, the Longi Green Energy research team optimized the electron transport layer thin film deposition process, introduced high-efficiency defect passivation materials, and designed and developed high-quality interface passivation structures to achieve a 0.7% increase in the absolute efficiency of the battery.

Xu Xixiang, chief scientist of LONGi Green Energy and vice president of the Central Research Institute, said: “The tandem cell technology we developed can match the existing crystalline silicon bottom cell process, which will help to achieve the upgrade and iteration of solar cell technology.”

It is reported that in 2023, LONGi Green Energy broke two world records for cell efficiency, crystalline silicon single-junction cells and crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cells, and its scientific research team has repeatedly refreshed the global solar cell efficiency record.
